Lake Chapala is situated at the border of Jalisco and Michoacán states in Mexico. With an area of 1100 square kilometers, it is the largest freshwater lake in Mexico, mostly located in Jalisco and a small part in Michoacán.

Lake Chapala is 80 kilometers long and 18 kilometers wide, with an average depth of 4.5 meters and a maximum depth of 10.5 meters, making it one of the most important lakes in Mexico.
