Craiova is located on the west bank of the Jiu River in central Oltenești, north of the Eastern European Carpathians and south of the Danube River, serving as the capital of Dolj County in Romania. It is the sixth largest city in Romania, as well as an important political and commercial center.
The St. Dimitrie Church in Craiova is a Romanian Orthodox church, with the current building constructed in 1889 in the Byzantine revival style. While not very grand, it exudes a sense of sacredness. The Craiova Art Museum focuses on the sculptural works of Romanian and French sculptors and modern photographer Constantin Brâncuși, along with collecting oil paintings by renowned Romanian artists. Established in 1952, the Craiova Botanical Garden serves both as a botanical garden and a research institution, cultivating flora from various regions of Romania and providing research materials for students at the University of Craiova.
