Vatulele Island is a unique island in Fiji, exuding an adventurous and romantic atmosphere while being far away from worldly distractions. It is said that “Vatulele” in Fijian translates to “ring of rocks” in English, suggesting that Vatulele Island is dotted with circular rock formations.
Upon arriving at Vatulele Island, one can leave all worries behind and bask in the Fijian sunshine, with 54 staff members dedicated to providing attentive service. The maximum number of visitors is capped at 24, with a service ratio of two staff members to one visitor, all being friendly locals from four villages on the island. In addition to the island’s secluded beaches, visitors can explore nearby islands and bird sanctuaries hosting hundreds of seabirds. Visitors can also visit villages where tapa cloth is made, explore caves, lighthouses, and jungle trails.
For the more active guests, activities such as surfing and sailing are available, with a variety of yachts for hire and popular opportunities for scuba diving with equipment available. Guests can go wreck diving, or simply spend the day lounging around – a favorite pastime on Vatulele Island is relaxing in a hammock after lunch. Fishing is also a thrilling pastime on the island, surrounded by coral reefs where various fish species thrive such as parrotfish, yellowfin tuna, and marlin. Vatulele Island is famed for being the breeding ground of the legendary red bearded prawns, considered a sacred site. Visitors are encouraged to explore and see if the legends hold true.
