Târgoviște is located in the southern part of Wallachia, Romania, on the right bank of the Jaleș River. It is the capital of Dâmbovița County, first mentioned in documents in 1396. The city was once the capital of the Principality of Wallachia and is currently the 26th largest city in Romania.
Târgoviște is home to numerous museums, including the National Police Museum, History Museum, Printing and Book Museum, Local Writers Museum, Art Museum, and the former residences of renowned writers. The most famous landmark in the city is the Sunset Tower, which is part of a 15th-century castle. Additionally, the Chindia Tower is worth a visit. For history enthusiasts, the ruins of Curtea Palace are an ideal place to visit. Despite some buildings having collapsed, the remaining ruins still evoke the splendor of the ancient palace.
