Historical Sites in Kaesong – Tourist Guide to Historical Sites in Kaesong, North Korea

The historical relics of Kaesong are located in Kaesong City, consisting of remnants representing the ruling base of the Goryeo Dynasty. From the city’s Feng Shui selection, palaces, city walls forming the urban defense system, to educational institutions, one can understand the spiritual values it encompasses. Therefore, it was listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 2013.

In 2004, the Complex of Koguryo Tombs became the first World Heritage Site in North Korea, with the Historic Area of Kaesong being the second. In 2007, North Korea first applied to the International Council on Monuments and Sites to list the Historic Area of Kaesong as a World Heritage Site, but it was deferred. In 2012, North Korea submitted the application again, and finally, at the 37th session of the World Heritage Committee in 2013, it was decided to include it in the World Cultural Heritage List. The historic sites of Kaesong include Kaesong City, Manwoldae, South Gate of Kaesong, Seonggyungwan, Songgyungwan Academy, the tombs of King Wang Gon and King Wang Jeong.
